StudioBook: Opportunity for Artists

Deadline for applications: Sunday 18 October (midnight)

Mark Devereux Projects invites applications from visual artists for StudioBook; a new intensive programme that will support artists over a five-month period taking place in Greater Manchester.

Starting in November 2015, StudioBook will provide selected participants with a weeklong series of intensive seminars, workshops and one-to-one mentoring sessions, led by established artists, curators and arts professionals. Initiated to nurture individual artist development and practice, StudioBook will offer practical guidance on working as an artist, including:

  • how to get your work seen
  • identifying your audience
  • writing and talking about your work
  • finance and funding guidance
  • sales, commissions and representation
  • promotion and marketing
  • public engagement
  • strategic planning

The programme is structured around a six-day week, which all participants are required to attend. The sessions are themed and will offer time for discussion around topics alongside critical feedback and advice surgeries. Each day will consist of four sessions including refreshments and lunch.

Subsequently, participating artists will present their practice to arts industry professionals and audiences at a special event in February 2016. To conclude, selected artists will be commissioned to make new work for MDP Associates’ annual group exhibition in March 2016. This will include a special commission(s) by University of Salford Art Collection, in which the final work will be placed within the University’s permanent collection.

StudioBook has been developed for artists from a wide geographic spread within the UK and mindful of the current economic climate and changes within higher education, offers an intensive and cost-effective learning programme.

Costs

StudioBook costs approximately £765 per artist to deliver. However, we have secured Arts Council England funding to cover the majority of these costs, meaning that the cost to each artist for the full programme will be:

MDP Associates: £70
Non-Associates: £120

Membership to MDP Associates costs £32 per year (benefits to be found on website). Costs for the programme apply to successful applicants only. StudioBook is free to apply.

The payments will be made to Mark Devereux Projects who are coordinating the programme. Additional costs to participants will include travel and accommodation. A limited number of travel and accommodation bursaries will be available to artists upon application. Mark Devereux Projects will advise on the best and cheapest accommodation where available.
